Andrea Horwath has officially registered on Friday as a candidate for re-election as Mayor of Hamilton in this year’s October municipal election.

“Over the last four years, we’ve faced some of the biggest challenges our city has seen in generations — a housing and homelessness crisis, rising cost of living, growing pressures on our streets and neighbourhoods and decades of underinvestment in the infrastructure our city relies on,” Horwath says.

“We haven’t solved every problem, but we’ve faced them head on, and we’ve made real progress.”

In the weeks ahead, Horwath says there will be more to share about her campaign.

“As your mayor, I still have a job to do. While an election may be on the horizon, the work of this city doesn’t stop. And neither will I. I will continue to fight for what Hamilton needs, stand up for what Hamilton deserves and deliver for the people who call this city home,” she says.

In 2022, Horwath was elected as Hamilton’s 58th mayor, working with partners across the city and other levels of government to deliver major investments in housing, infrastructure, transit, economic development and community services.

Horwath has shaped the city by helping secure major investments in Hamilton’s airport, waterfront and downtown, including the $280 million transformation and reopening of TD Coliseum.

She also made historic municipal investments in affordable and supportive housing, helping advance over 2000 new homes across Hamilton.

Horwath expanded Hamilton’s shelter system by 80 per cent and helped more people move from homelessness into permanent housing.

“You know me. You know where I stand. And you know that when it comes to Hamilton, I will always show up, I will always do the work, and I will always fight for this city,” Horwath says.

“There is more work ahead. I’m running because I believe in Hamilton, I believe in what we can accomplish together, and I’m ready to keep doing the work.”

Hamilton’s municipal election will take place on Oct. 26.
