OPP lays over 8,200 charges during Civic Holiday long weekend

With increased traffic on the roads during the Civic Day long weekend, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) laid about 8,240 charges related to traffic and marine safety.

OPP patrolled the roads, trails and waterways to help keep everyone safe, laying 3,921 speeding charges, 579 seatbelt-related charges and 77 distracted driving charges.

Officers also laid 188 impaired driving charges and 128 charges related to compliance with Ontario’s Move Over Law.

OPP is thanking all drivers and passengers who prioritized safety over the long weekend, noting that collective efforts are essential to preventing avoidable tragedies on the roads.
