Police ID 15-year-old suspect wanted in Stoney Creek double homicide

Hamilton police have identified a 15-year-old suspect who is wanted in connection with the shooting deaths of two teenagers on Stoney Creek Mountain earlier this week.

Officers say at around 2:25 a.m. Wednesday, they responded to reports of gunshots at Tabby Town Co-op Housing at 191 Candlewood Dr., near Rymal Road East and Upper Centennial Parkway.

Investigators arrived at the scene and found 18-year-old Abdulmalek Shibli and 16-year-old Afef Binafif suffering from gunshot wounds.

Both were transported to hospital, where they died from their injuries.

Detectives say they remain focused on finding the person responsible and ensuring that they are held accountable.

As part of the investigation, officers obtained an arrest warrant for 15-year-old Rahziel Martin of Hamilton, who is wanted for two counts of second-degree murder and four counts of attempted murder using a firearm.

Hamilton police have received judicial authorization under the Youth Criminal Justice Act to temporarily publish Martin’s name and photograph, for the purpose of locating and arresting him.

Officers are urging Martin to seek legal advice and to turn himself in to police.

They warn that anyone who knowingly assists Martin in avoiding arrest may also be subject to criminal charges.

Police say if anyone sees Martin, to not approach him and to call 911 immediately.
