Eligible Canadians can now renew passports online

The federal government is allowing eligible Canadians to renew their passports online as it expands the digital service nationwide.

As passport renewal wait times have increased over the years, long lineups have put a strain on the system throughout the GTHA.

To qualify, applicants must have at least been 16 years old when their previous passport was issued. They also must have received that passport within the past 15 years among other requirements.

Most online renewals must be completed within 20 days and can be tracked online, according to Immigration Minister Lena Diab.
