The Gordie Howe bridge is open. Why is it suddenly political?

VIDEO: The Gordie Howe International Bridge opened to vehicles Monday after months of cross-border controversy.

And the latest piece of that controversy came last week when the federal government announced that Canada would be celebrating the opening of the bridge without the United States.
