No injuries reported after shots fired near U.S. consulate in Toronto

Toronto police are investigating after shots were fired near the U.S. consulate in downtown Toronto early Monday morning.

Officers on guard at the consulate heard a firearm discharge in the area of University Avenue and Queen Street West around 4:45 a.m.

Police arrived at the scene and found a single shell casing outside the government building.

No injuries were reported, and it’s unclear whether the building was struck or if the shots were fired nearby.

Police say a white sedan fled the area. No suspect information has been released.

Southbound University Avenue remains closed while investigators examine the scene.

The shooting comes four months after another attack on the U.S. consulate.

Police allege the March 10 shooting was part of a gun-for-hire plot involving young people recruited to target the building.

Sheldon Tracy-Stewart, 18, and Zara Jabbi, 19, were charged in June on multiple counts related to the incident.
