Political analyst speaks on outlook of Ontario byelections in wake of hotel scandal

VIDEO: CHCH News anchor Matt Ingram was joined by former Queen’s Park correspondent Keith Leslie to speak about the upcoming Ontario byelections in the wake of the hotel scandal in Doug Ford’s PC party.

Ontario will have three provincial byelections in September.

They will be held to fill vacancies left by former Ontario NDP MPP Dolly Begum in Scarborough Southwest, Progressive Conservative MPP Caroline Mulroney in York—Simcoe, and Progressive Conservative MPP Neil Lumsden in Hamilton East—Stoney Creek.

The elections are expected to be called by the premier on Aug. 5, with voting expected on Sept. 3.

In Hamilton East—Stoney Creek, Hamilton Ward 10 city councillor Jeff Beattie was announced today as the PC candidate. He had previously said he intended to run for re-election to city council.

The Ontario Liberals have announced Heino Doessing as their candidate. He ran against Neil Lumsden and lost in last year’s provincial election.

The Ontario NDP and Green parties haven’t announced who will run for them yet.
