U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened Canada with more tariffs due to smoke from Ontario wildfires reaching the United States.

Trump took to his social media platform Truth Social to say the U.S. government will be holding Canada responsible for “not properly maintaining their Forests.”

He goes on to say, “The United States is being unnecessarily invaded by filthy, polluted, and unhealthy air, the quality of which is dangerous, and totally unacceptable!”

Trump ends his statement saying that wildfire smoke is costing the U.S. billions of dollars – adding that the cost of pollution will be added to tariffs that Canada is already paying.

According to the National Interagency Fire Center based out of Boise, Idaho, firefighters are working to contain 68 large fires across the United States.

The U.S. Forest Service, an agency within the Department of Agriculture says the National Wildland Fire Preparedness Level has been raised to level four.

Level four — on a scale from one to five — means “significant wildland fire or non-fire activity is occurring in multiple geographic areas.”
