Stoney Creek teen charged with attempted murder in Tim Hortons shooting

First Published:

A 16-year-old boy has been charged with attempted murder following a shooting at a Tim Hortons in Hamilton on Sunday.

Officers were called to an “altercation” at the Tim Hortons near Caroline and King streets.

Police say a male went to the restaurant and got into a fight with a number of people in the parking lot. Someone pulled out a gun and fired shots into the building’s glass doors.

Detectives with the Central Criminal Investigative Bureau say they were able to identify the shooter. A 16-year-old boy from Stoney Creek was arrested along with a 23-year-old man in the area of Jackson St. West and Caroline St. South on Monday. Police say the teen was carrying a firearm at the time of his arrest. He is facing ten firearm-related charges, attempted murder, utter threats, possession of controlled substance, and six counts of breach of court dates.

The 23-year-old man, of no fixed address, was taken into custody for drug offences unrelated to the shooting.

A 15-year-old Hamilton boy, who police say was at the shooting but not directly involved, was also arrested on Monday after a brief foot chase near George St. and Hess St. South. He is facing drug-related charges.

The trio is expected to appear at John Sopinka Courthouse later Tuesday.

“The investigation is ongoing and as evidence dictates further charges will be laid,” said Hamilton police in a news release.

Hamilton police say they are still looking for another suspect in the shooting.

Anyone with additional information is asked to contact police.
