Global criticism mounts after Israel passes death penalty law

Israel’s parliament has passed a new law that makes the death penalty the *default* sentence for any Palestinian convicted of killing Jewish settlers, in the occupied West Bank.  This fulfils a pledge by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s far-right allies, but the legislation is drawing international criticism and sparking human rights concerns.
