New court documents show Toys “R” Us Canada is about to close more store locations in Ontario, including in St. Catharines.
In filings related to its creditor protection case, the retailer says it wants to close its store at the Niagara Pen Centre, pending the upcoming creditor protection hearing.
The documents show the company will shutter its location at Upper Canada Mall in Newmarket by March 31, after it reached a lease termination agreement with the landlord.
However, when the company filed for creditor protection and began restructuring earlier this month, it warned its 22-store footprint could shrink even further.
Court filings from earlier this month also said the company anticipates honouring previously-issued gift cards up until Feb. 16, meaning after Monday gift cards won’t be redeemable.
Thirteen existing stores have affiliates of Toys “R” Us Canada owner Putman Investments as landlords, and 11 of those properties are currently for sale.
