Five arrested in central Hamilton traffic stop on drug, firearm charges

Hamilton police have arrested five people after a gun and drugs were found during a traffic stop on Wentworth Street North Thursday.

Investigators say at around 4:30 p.m. they stopped a white Ford Explorer and found indications that there were drugs inside the car.

Officers say they conducted a search and seized 113 grams of methamphetamine, a drug debt ledger and Canadian currency that is believed to be bundled in a manner consistent with drug trafficking.

At this point, police placed the five people in the car under arrest and conducted a more thorough search of the vehicle.

In this search, authorities say they discovered a concealed compartment in the dashboard that was hiding a handgun, loaded magazine and additional money.

Police have pressed drug trafficking related charges as well as firearms charges.
