St. Catharines man arrested after attempted robbery

A 19-year-old St. Catharines man has been arrested following an attempted robbery in the area of Church and Market streets.

Niagara police say they were dispatched to the area around 9:50 p.m. Tuesday night after the victims called 9-1-1.

The callers told officers that they were attempting to purchase an iPhone from a Facebook Marketplace seller.

When they met up with the seller, they became wary and did not get out of their car. They claim the seller stated his intention to rob them.

Officers were able to catch up with the suspect a short distance away, and promptly placed him under arrest.

19-year-old Andrei Abordo of St. Catharines has been charged with two counts of robbery, carrying a concealed weapon, and possession of a weapon for dangerous purposes.
