It’s a deal that would transform Hollywood and the streaming landscape all together, Netflix announced it’s plans to swallow up one of it’s biggest competitors Warner Bros Studios.
Netflix would acquire it’s film and TV studios, HBO and HBO Max for a cost of roughly $72 billion dollars in a move that is a stark contrast to the company’s early days of mailing it’s customers DVD’S.
It’s certainly a seismic shakeup and there’s been waves of reaction, from the Writers Guild of America who says the move would eliminate jobs, to others who say this marks the end of cinema as we know it. But the devil is in the details, and there are some regulatory concerns that will need to be addressed first.
How this will affect consumers remains to be seen. As it stands now, Crave, a subsidiary of BELL, has a multi-year deal to exclusively host HBO content.
