Man critically hurt after car strikes him on Barton St. E in Hamilton

Hamilton police say a man was critically injured after being hit by an SUV on Barton Street East Monday night.

Officers say they responded to reports of the collision just after 5 p.m. on Barton Street East near Rosslyn Avenue North.

Investigators have determined that a Mazda CX-30 SUV was traveling west on Barton when it struck a 32-year-old man attempting to cross the road.

The man was brought to the hospital with critical injuries and the driver of the SUV was not injured, authorities say.

Officers closed Barton Street East for several hours Monday night following the crash for their investigation.

Police are continuing to investigate the crash but have since reopened the area to traffic.

Hamilton Police Collision Reconstruction Unit has taken the lead on the investigation. Any potential witnesses to this collision are urged to come forward. Investigators are also requesting any motorists in the area at the time of the collision to check their dash cameras and any residences or businesses in the area with surveillance cameras to review their camera footage.
