Hamilton mayor to host community safety summit this fall amid gun violence concerns

Hamilton mayor Andrea Horwath says she’ll host a community safety summit this fall to address growing concerns about gun violence and hate crimes in the city.

We spoke with Mayor Andrea Horwath who says many of the details of this summit are still to be determined but she says she wants to bring community groups together to come up with a solution.

The mayor also says she’s looking to other municipalities dealing with the same issues for some solutions.

Ward 5 Councillor Matt Francis says gun violence is something he plans to bring up at the Association of Municipalities of Ontario conference later this month.
