One-of-a-kind destination that proves nature should be accessible to everyone

Nestled just minutes from the buzz of Niagara Falls, Heartland Forest is a peaceful, one-of-a-kind destination that proves nature should be accessible to everyone. Whether you’re a family looking for a fun day out, a nature enthusiast seeking tranquility, or an educator looking to spark environmental curiosity, Heartland Forest delivers, and does so with heart.
Heartland Forest isn’t just a conservation area – it’s a community treasure built on the belief that everyone deserves a chance to enjoy the great outdoors. Founded by local resident Dan Bowman, the space was inspired by his vision to create an inclusive, barrier-free environment where people of all ages and abilities could experience the magic of nature.
It’s now recognized as one of the most accessible natural areas in Canada, attracting thousands of visitors each year.
The forest features over 2 miles of wheelchair-accessible trails that weave through lush Carolinian forest, wetlands, and open meadows. Each trail is clearly marked, smooth, and wide enough for walkers, wheelchairs, and strollers- a rarity in most natural parks. But everything about Heartland Forest has been designed with accessibility in mind.
Heartland Forest is also a hub for environmental education, as the team offers a wide range of programming year-round. It’s an incredible place for teachers, homeschoolers, or anyone who believes in the power of learning through experience.
