CNN correspondent speaks on upcoming above-average Atlantic hurricane season

CHCH News anchor Matt Ingram spoke with Michael Yoshida, a news correspondent with CNN, about the impending above-average Atlantic hurricane season.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is forecasting an above-average Atlantic hurricane season.

Hurricane season usually runs from June 1 to Nov. 30, each year.

The agency says this year’s hurricane season has a 60 per cent chance of being an above-normal season, a 30 per cent chance of a near-normal season and a 10 per cent chance of a below-normal season.

Ingram asked Yoshida what possible factors could have influenced the forecast of an above-normal hurricane season.

Yoshida spoke about the U.S. National Weather Service, and how it was looking to fill critical vacancies in its staffing heading into the hurricane season.
