Ontario minister Rob Flack expands on government’s new fast-track housing bill

CHCH News anchor Matt Ingram spoke with Minister Rob Flack to discuss the Ford government’s new bill to “help build homes faster.”

Flack spoke about what makes the Protect Ontario by Building Faster and Smarter Act (2025) is different from previous proposals to speed up housing construction in Ontario.

The proposed legislation caps the number of affordable units a municipality can require in certain developments. With this in mind, Ingram asked why implement this at a time when the need for affordable housing is greater than ever.

Flack then speaks about the main challenge that the province has faced that has prevented it from getting homes built at the pace necessary to hit 1.5 million homes by 2031 – a promise made in 2023.
