U.S. President Donald Trump is taking his trade war to the movie theatre.

He wrote on Truth Social late Sunday night he was directing the commerce department to “immediately begin the process of instituting a 100 per cent tariff on any and all movies” coming into the States produced elsewhere, but Monday, the White House seemingly walked the statement back.

A spokesperson from the White House said Monday no final decisions had been made, but the administration would be exploring all options to deliver on Trump’s directive, while “making Hollywood great again.”

The late-night comments from the President instantly prompted concern from filmmakers, executives, and other stakeholders, like Canada.
