Ontario Premier Doug Ford says the provincial government will be adding a 25 per cent surcharge to electricity sent to the United States starting March 10.

Ford made the comments on CNN, shortly after U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick hinted at a one-month pause on tariffs for Canadian and Mexican products.

When asked about the 30-day pause, Ford told CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer that “the only thing certain about the next 30 days is uncertainty.”

“I have an idea – let’s just drop these tariffs, let’s sit down and re-negotiate the [United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement] that he created,” he added.

Ford says he will not back down on retaliatory measures until the threat of tariffs is dropped completely.
