Drunk baggage handler falls asleep in cargo hold, flies to Chicago

An admittedly drunk American Airlines baggage handler decided to take a nap during his shift and ended up flying from Kansas City to Chicago.

The employee, who works for American subsidiary Piedmont Airlines, was working American Flight 363 on Saturday when the plane left Kansas City International Airport with the napping handler in a heated and pressurized cargo hold.

According to The Associated Press, Chicago Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said the worker was found when the flight landed about an hour later at Chicago’s O’Hare airport. The spokesman said the handler told police he was intoxicated and had fallen asleep.

No charges have been laid and the worker was sent back to Kansas City.

The airline says they are reviewing the incident and are grateful the worker didn’t get hurt.

The baggage handler’s name was not released.
