The OPP will increase their presence on the roads for the next two days to make sure drivers are moving over when they see emergency vehicles.
Sgt. Kerry Schmidt says the two-day initiative aims to save precious seconds for emergency crews trying to get to accidents and medical emergencies.
“We ask everyone to slow down and move over when they are coming by any disabled vehicle, because you don’t know what will be around the vehicle. People may be walking around and we just want to make sure there is an extra margin of safety for people on the side of the road and particularly emergency workers who are doing their job.”
Failure to slow down and move over for an emergency vehicle could cost as much as $2000 and demerit points.
OPP will also be on the look out for aggressive and distracted drivers.
