Mother Nature put a bit of a damper on the annual Pottahawk get together on Sunday.
The massive boat party is one of North America’s largest, but it was considerably smaller this year thanks to some serious downpour.
Despite the rain, die-hards did show up to celebrate.
“Rows and rows of boats,” a Pottahawker said. “Usually there’d be a first row, second row, third row we’re in and there’d be a fourth row.”
The annual gathering at Pottahawk Point attracts thousands of boaters, drinkers and sun worshippers.
In good weather, Pottahawk usually attracts almost 10,000 people. This year not quite half that, but the ones who did decide to brave the rain are ready to party.”
During the downpour, some Pottahawkers took shelter and others danced in the rain.
“We’re having a lot of fun,” a Pottahawker said. “No matter what.”
After 30 minutes of solid downpour passivity and patience brought a change in the winds.
“I pray to the sun gods,” a Pottahawker said. “The sun gods are going to answer my prayer.”
Those who were willing to brave the rain were rewarded with some sunshine.
