Video added Remembrance Day ceremonies took place across the country today, with several services happening in Hamilton.
More than 2,000 people attended a service at the Warplane Heritage Museum in Mount Hope. Many veterans were in attendance and used the moment to reflect on their past duties as well as those they served with.
Malcolm Andrade served in the Second World War and said the service brought back a lot of memories. “It was grueling work and you lost guys. I’m just glad to be here.”
In downtown Hamilton, hundreds of people gathered at the Gore Park Cenotaph for the Remembrance Day ceremony. Members of the Hamilton Police Pipe Band, as well as regular service officers, Royal Hamilton Light Infantry, the Royal Canadian Air Cadets and others participated in the parade from the Armoury on James Street North to Gore Park.
Stephen Harper marked the day during a stop in Hong Kong. The Prime Minister called for Canadians to recognize and honour the sacrifices made by those in uniform that allow for our experience of freedom and democracy. “These are the flowers that flourish upon their graves,” he said.
