The ski community in Collingwood, ON is remembering their friend Nik Zoricic, 29.

Zoricic passed away yesterday after crashing hard into the safety fence at the side of a skicross race course in Switzerland. The crash caused severe neurotrauma from which the Toronto native succumbed to.

This is the second time in recent months a Canadian skier has been killed. In January Sarah Burke, 29, died after a fall during a super pipe training run at the Park City Mountain Resort in Utah.

Grief counsellors are with his teammates and a candlelight vigil was planned at the race’s finish area in Switzerland.

Zoricic skied out of the Craigleith Ski Club in Collingwood, and those close to him are also saying goodbye.
