Hamilton fire crews worked quickly overnight to knock down a fire at a building that was under construction near the city’s centre.

Crews were called to a structure fire at 433 King St. East around 1:43 a.m. Monday.

Fire Chief Dave Cunliffe says firefighters arrived to find a heavily-involved fire in the two-storey building.

Crews conducted search and rescue but did not locate anyone inside.

The fire was upgraded to a second alarm and additional crews were called in to help.

Firefighters launched an aggressive interior attack and managed to quickly get the fire under control.

Fire officials have yet to determine the cause of the blaze.

The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office has been called in to investigate.
