Ontario reports 1,138 COVID-19 cases, 23 deaths

Ontario reported 1,138 cases of COVID-19 and 23 deaths on Thursday.

This comes as the province completed 66,351 tests. The positivity rate is 2 per cent, based on government numbers, which take into account the date tests were administered.

Another 1,094 cases were marked as resolved.

Ontario is reporting 1,138 cases of #COVID19 and nearly 66,400 tests completed. Locally, there are 339 new cases in Toronto, 204 in Peel and 106 in York Region.

As of 8:00 p.m. yesterday, 621,960 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered.

• 56 active cases
• 12 deaths
• 7,789 vaccine doses given; 2,515 people fully vaccinated

St. Peter Elementary School in Brantford was closed on Wednesday because of a COVID-19 outbreak there. There are seven cases in seven separate cohorts, including a bus and after-school program.

Haldimand-Norfolk

• 1,412 total cases — up two from Wednesday
• 1,341 resolved cases
• 27 active cases
• 39 deaths
• 4,916 vaccine doses given; 1,538 people fully vaccinated

The province says it administered 19,112 vaccine doses on Wednesday, putting the total number of doses given to 621,960.

There are 255,449 people who have received both required vaccine doses and are fully vaccinated.

The number of confirmed cases of variants of concern is up.

There are now 449 cases of the B.1.1.7 lineage of the virus, first reported in the U.K.

Cases of the B.1.351 strain, first reported in South Africa, is now at 11.

There are now two cases of the P.1 strain first reported in Brazil.

The number of patients hospitalized is 687, up from the 675 reported on Wednesday.

There are 283 people in intensive care, down slightly from Wednesday, and 182 of them are on ventilators.
