New school opens in Waterdown

Staff and students at Saint Thomas Elementary School in Waterdown have been patiently waiting a little over a year for their new school to open.

The wait finally ended on Friday.

Students counted down and then raised the flag in celebration of the event.

Drummers played as smiling students made their way inside the school and the children and their families took some time to enjoy cake.

The 64,000 square foot school cost $12.2 million to build and houses a 2,000 square foot library.
