Hamilton mayor Fred Eisenberger suffered burns on his hand, after a fire broke out at his home Saturday evening.

The fire started in his dryer around 5 p.m. but fire crews were able to get it under control.

The mayor was taken to hospital for possible smoke inhalation, and had his hand bandaged.

He released a statement Sunday thanking police, and the Hamilton Fire Department for their response, and staff at Hamilton General Hospital for treating his injuries.

No one else was hurt in the incident.
