How do you learn to become a city councillor?

Re-elected and newly elected councillors received an orientation session at the Art Gallery of Hamilton to go over what they need to know. Mayor-elect Fred Eisenberger is among those in attendance.

The city solicitor as well as other speakers are talking about confidentiality issues, appropriate use of resources and the code of conduct.

New ward 1 councillor-elect Aidan Johnson told CHCH News they got to know each other better. “I think that’s a primary thing that’s going on today, and we acquire a great deal of new information about all the different departments and jurisdictions within city government so that we can know the nuts and bolts of how things work at city hall.”

The orientation continues for the rest of the day today, as well as tomorrow. The mayor and councillors will be officially sworn in on December 3rd.
