Police still looking for missing Burlington man

CHCH has new information tonight about the disappearance of a 50-year old Burlington man, almost a month ago. Janis Ozollapa went to work on September 30th in Oakville, and hasn’t been seen since. For the first, time his family has come forward to talk about the case. And police have released surveillance video, they hope may jog the memories of potential witnesses.

Four weeks ago, Janis Ozollapa disappeared. Completely.

His wife Patricia Harris: “No one has seen or heard from him since he left.”

Ozollapa’s wife, Patricia Harris — says Janis was doing some contracting work in this Oakville neighbourhood on Weeping Willow Drive. He left around two o’clock — and hasn’t been seen since.

Patricia Harris: “It’s not unlikely for him to leave in the middle of the day and return to work, but this time he just didn’t return.”

But the next day, on October first, his pickup truck was found behind this Oakville lighting store, which led to another discovery.

Police have a security video of a man they’d like to talk to. It was taken by the security camera behind me, on the wall. The man parks Janis’ pickup truck in the parking lot and then exits to my left, out to Cross street — where he begins to jog west.

The video, is not ideal — but it alerted police to the presence of some possible witnesses.

Chantal Corner, Halton Police Service: “At that exact same time, surveillance video caught three different types of vehicles travelling eastbound that passed the running male, so we are looking for the drivers of a motorcycle, a pickup truck, and a taxi cab, and we just don’t know what the taxi cab company is.”

The parking lot is directly across from the Oakville GO station. Busy with commuters, even at that early morning hour.

Patricia: “I’m just hoping that somehow it will just jog someone’s memory, and they’ll just remember something that will just be the little bit of information that will crack this case open.

Most worrisome for Patricia — there has been no contact with friends or family either here in Canada, or in Janis’ native land of Latvia. Something completely out of character:

Patricia: “Number one, first and foremost — he loves our daughter so much. I mean whenever he had to work late — he would always call. Everyone’s obviously hurt and upset by the situation, everyone’s got questions. It just seems right now there are more questions than answers.”

Both Patricia, and Halton police are hoping that if you can provide some of those missing answers, you’ll call the Halton Regional Police Service. Even if it’s just a small bit of information, it could be the break that police need — in this case that is, as disturbing, as it is mysterious.

He left his work on Weeping Willow Drive in Oakville, around 2 p.m. and hasn’t been seen since.

He’s described as 6’0, 170 pounds, has grey eyes and is bald with a goatee.

He speaks with a heavy Latvian accent.
