It is every parent’s worst nightmare — their young child gone missing.

And that’s exactly what happened last night in a rural area just south of Woodstock.

Luckily, the two-year old girl was found. She ended up about a kilometer away from where she went missing.

Search and rescue crews continued to look for two-year-old Brooklyn Honderich through the night and well into the morning.

Whether it was by air or ground, rescuers were hopeful they’d find the toddler unharmed.

Police say the family first reported Brooklyn missing just after 7 last night.

Over 200 volunteers and police officers from a number of detachments took part in the search.

Just after 10am, one volunteer found Brooklyn deep in the cornfield unharmed.

Steve: “We were just walking along the back corn field and were just calling her name and I said to her — I called her name and I said Brooklyn you want to go to mommy and I heard a little crying. I just followed the noise and led me right to her.”

But according to police, the cornfield made it difficult to locate little Brooklyn.

The search for Brooklyn Honderich started in this cornfield right here. You can see the corn stalks tower over 2 metres high — making the search for the toddler that much harder.

The Honderich family uses this farm to feed their cattle. And according to neighbours, Brooklyn was playing with the farm’s dog before she disappeared.

The little girl spent more than 12 hours in the farm’s cornfield. A combination of warm weather and warm clothing kept her safe.

Steve, a father himself, says he couldn’t imagine what the family was going through: “In this community, we gather around each other. And if it was my kid, I would expect the community to come together to find my child too.”

According to Steve, the toddler had wandered almost a kilometre from the farm house, but is glad she’s back home safe and sound: “It’s pretty special finding that girl and it’s definitely a feel good moment for me.”

It’s was a happy moment for Brooklyn’s family as well. She was taken to hospital as a precaution. She is now with her family safe and sound.
