5 events in Hamilton to mark International Overdose Awareness Day

Advocacy groups across Hamilton are hosting events Wednesday to mark International Overdose Awareness Day.

The goals of the annual campaign are to raise awareness of overdose, reduce stigma associated with drug-related deaths and remember those who have died or suffered permanent injury due to drug overdose.

Here is a list of five events happening in the city:

Event: The HUB will be hosting a BBQ with a memorial, harm reduction education, naloxone training and community resources.
Location: 78 Vine St. Hamilton, ON L8R 2A9
Time: 12 to 3 p.m.

Event: Hamilton Urban Core Community Health Centre will be hosting a one-day event featuring naloxone training, harm reduction resources, a truth hearing on Addictions and Mental Health and knowledge exchange from community partners and leaders.
Location: 70 James St. South Hamilton, ON L8P 2Y8
Time: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Event: The YWCA will be hosting an open house at the Safer Use Space. Purple ribbons will be provided and naloxone training and kits will be available.
Location: 75 MacNab St. South Hamilton, ON L8P 3C1
Time: 2 to 4:30 p.m.

Event: Helping Hands Street Mission will be hosting both an information table and an opportunity to post or share a memory of a loved one who passed away as a result of an overdose.
Location: 351 Barton St. East Hamilton, ON L8L 2X8
Time: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Event: The Community Box at St. Matthew’s House will have an information table and free naloxone training and kits.
Location: 414 Barton St. East Hamilton, ON L8L 2Y3
Time: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
