43-year-old man badly injured, OPP officer faces assault charges

An OPP officer is facing assault charges in connection with an arrest earlier this year, leaving the suspect badly injured.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) said Bracebridge OPP were called to a Canadian Pacific Railway yard in Georgian Bay Ont. following a trespass, breaking and entering report around 3:20 a.m. on July 10.

The OPP constable is charged with assault causing bodily harm and assault with a weapon during the arrest of the 43-year-old man.

The SIU said officers located the man nearby a retail area where he was shot by a stun gun and then arrested.

Following the man’s arrest, he was sent to the hospital where he was diagnosed with serious injuries.

The officer who has been charged with assault is scheduled to appear in a Bracebridge court on Dec. 20.
