One person has been hospitalized in critical condition after they were found without vital signs in a burning home in Hamilton’s east end Thursday morning.
Emergency crews arrived shortly after 6 a.m. to heavy smoke and fire coming from the first floor of the two-storey home located at 351 Strathearne Ave., at the corner of Vansitmart Avenue.
Neighbours told firefighters that two people may have been inside of the home.
First responders then entered the home through the front and back doors. They found a person without vital signs near the kitchen on the first floor.
Their pulse returned after firefighters removed the person from the home and performed CPR.

Paramedics brought the person to hospital in critical condition.
While the cause of the fire has not yet been determined, officials say the blaze was found in the living room area and spread into the floor, walls and ceiling.
It was quickly brought under control but caused nearly $400,000 in significant damages.
Authorities say no one else was found in the home.
Ontario’s Office of the Fire Marshal has been notified.
