The cycling track inside Milton Pan Am Velodrome got a test Saturday evening.
The country’s top cyclists will compete in the Canadian Track Championships for a spot at the games this July.
Cyclist Alex Catafard was impressed.
“It is a super nice track, it is really nice to have a facility like this so close to home now.”
Construction on Canada’s only Olympic indoor Velodrome started back in February, 2013 at a cost of $56 million dollars.
It was expected to open back in November but was not yet ready.
Remi Pelletier says it was worth the wait for the 250 metre track made from Siberian spruce.
“It has short, straight, really round corners, really a world class track, real distance, indoors, super nice.”
The facility also houses Olympic and Paralympic calibre training facilities.
For the past two two decades, Canadian cyclists had to travel south of the border to train.
Following the Canadian Track Championship, the Velodrome will host the Milton International Challenge before the all the Pan Am action in July.
