Police recover body from Welland Recreational Waterway

Niagara Regional Police are investigating after the body of a missing youth was recovered from the Welland Recreational Waterway Wednesday night.

Police say he had been reported missing by his family after he failed to return home on Tuesday.

Officers began searching in the area of the Lincoln St. Bridge, which is one of the last places he was seen.

The Underwater Search and Rescue team was called in to help.

The body was found in the waterway near the bridge around 6:30 p.m.

Niagara Police are looking to speak with anyone who may have been in the area between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Tuesday.

An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause of death.

Police say the family has been notified and have requested that the identity not be released at this time.
