Braley donates $3 million to Mohawk

First Published:

Mohawk College just got a big boost from Senator David Braley. He’s donated $3 million for the school’s new gym facility. It’s the second largest donation in the college’s history.

The gym is scheduled to open in September and will be called the David Braley Athletic and Recreation Centre.

There was plenty of fanfare around the announcement. A marching band escorted Braley into the unfinished gym for the presentation.

When the project is complete it will house three gymnasiums, a fitness centre and common space for students to kick back.

It will also put Mohawk on the map among Ontario colleges. Mohawk’s current gym is one of the smallest and oldest in the province. This renovation will put it at the front of the pack.

Braley says he’s focused his donations on health and fitness projects. He says active youth will benefit Canada’s health care system in the long run.
