Queen’s Park is reacting to a move by the Halton Catholic School Board, which voted down proposed changes to its anti-bullying policy. The move came as a shock to the board chair, Jane Michael and has raised red flags in the gay, lesbian, and transgender communities. Some trustees were concerned that including sexual orientation, or gender identity could go against religious teachings. Michael agreed that voting down the changes does not send a good sign to members of the lgbtq community.

Marcus Logan works with gay and transgender students from the Catholic School Board and says the board “was” going in the right direction by trying to re-word the anti-bullying policy.

Gay and bisexual MPP’s at Queen’s Park who have been bullied because of their sexuality, voiced their disappointment with the Halton Catholic School Board’s current position.

The same proposed changes will be discussed again at a policy meeting June 14th and could be up for another vote at the last board meeting of the school year on June 21.
