Waterloo police arrest man from Paris after an attempted kidnapping

Police have arrested 50-year-old David Sherk from Paris, Ont. in connection to an attempted kidnapping Tuesday morning in Wellesley Township.

Officers say that a man armed with a knife went to a property near Hessen Strasse and Greenwood Road at around 11:30 a.m. and tried to force a woman into a vehicle.

Detectives say that the man assaulted the woman and brandished the knife at her. Witnesses told police that people nearby had intervened in the attack and prevented the woman from getting hurt.

Officers say the the man fled the area in a vehicle before they arrived before escaping on foot into a wooded area.

Investigators say they found and arrested Sherk in the Niagara region and have charged him with attempting kidnapping and assault with a weapon.

Sherk is currently being held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court for a bail hearing at a future date.
