Trump vows ‘help is on the way’ to Iranian protestors, thousands feared dead

U.S. President Donald Trump says he’s cancelled meetings with Iranian officials and has told protesters to keep up the demonstrations, adding “help is on the way.”

Thousands of people are feared dead in Iran after a crackdown on weeks of anti-government protests.

The country is also heading into it’s sixth day without internet, though some users of landline and mobile phones have now been able to call abroad for the first time in days.

President Trump has floated the possibility of U.S. intervention in Iran and his national security team reportedly met Tuesday to discuss options.

Trump announced Monday that countries actively doing business with Iran will face a 25 per cent tariff.

Protests in support of Iranian people have continued to spread.

Outside the U.S. embassy on Toronto’s University Avenue Tuesday, hundreds gathered to stand in solidarity with their family and friends in Iran.
