The Liberals voted against Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre’s motion Tuesday for a new oil pipeline to the B.C. coast but ministers are insisting it doesn’t mean Ottawa is giving up on the memorandum of understanding signed with Alberta last month.
The motion put forward by the Conservatives was a more pointed version of the memorandum of understanding, adding additional language about the tanker ban.
Poilievre said he wanted to force the Liberals to take a more clear position on the pipeline.
A new leger poll suggests about half of Canadians are in favour of building a new pipeline between Alberta and BC, while fewer than one in five outright oppose it.
