VIDEO: As the scheduled review of the Canada-U.S.-Mexico free trade agreement draws closer, Prime Minister Mark Carney is beginning to assemble his team to broker a new deal. Carney announced Monday he’s tapped Janice Charette, the former head of the public service, to serve as Canada’s chief trade negotiator to the United States. Charette is a career bureaucrat, twice serving as clerk of the privy council. Her appointment comes as Carney prepares a broader team to take on the review of the North American Free Trade Pact, an important negotiation that’s expected to be an uphill battle with the U.S.
