Police are investigating a suspicious death in Hamilton’s east end. A body was found in a car Wednesday evening in the parking lot of a Walmart plaza at Centennial Parkway and the QEW.

Elise Copps has the details.

Shoppers were thrown off by the flurry of police activity in the parking lot as they arrived to do their shopping.

Police were called after a body was found in a black Chevy Cavalier. It was covered in blood. When we arrived at the scene, police had laid a yellow tarp over the car.

Forensics set up a tent and boxed in the car to investigate. One police source said the possibility of a suicide was being considered. Another officer contradicted that. The victim’s relatives were notified at the scene.

Walmart customers were shocked to find the possible crime scene in such a public place:

“Wondering what’s going on in a Walmart parking lot. And trying to answer questions to the little one when you don’t even know what’s going on. When there’s that much tape and tarps and tents, you know it’s not a good scene, that’s for sure.”

“We just arrived here. We saw the forensic tents and we were gonna ask and see what was going on.”

“That’s so sad. How unfortunate.”

Police are saying little, other than that the death is still being investigated.
