A retired employee from St Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton has made it his mission to spread Christmas cheer.

He goes by the name Santa Bruce, and has been pushing a sleigh around the halls for the last ten years. The sleigh used to be a rolling shipping cart until it was transformed to carry teddy bears for patients.

Santa Bruce (Straughan) raises money for a different cause every year. This Christmas he is helping Camp Trillium, a camp for kids with cancer.

“The reason I started doing this is because a long time ago, I was out of work, and I know it was hard for me to go through and struggle through Christmas and stuff, and I just took it upon myself and my family to start doing this to raise money to help families that need help in the community.”

Santa Bruce also paid a special visit to St Joe’s newborns and their mothers. Bruce says he enjoys seeing the joy he brings to people’s faces.
