Police on the hunt for man who robbed bank in Niagara Falls

First Published:

A man who robbed a bank in Niagara Falls remains at large.

Officers were called out to the CIBC Bank on Huggins Street for a robbery on Friday.

They say that a man entered the branch around 2 p.m. while brandishing a black firearm and demanding money.

No one was hurt, but the man made off with an undisclosed amount of money.

He was left seen making his escape on foot.

Authorities were able to identify the man and are circulating his name and image — warning the public that he may be armed and dangerous.

Police are now on the hunt for Stephane Smith and say he was last spotted in St. Catharines.

Investigators describe him as a heavy-set white man who weighs around 230 lbs. He’s five-foot-eight and is unshaven. Officers say Smith was last seen wearing a black coat, black pants, black-rimmed glasses, a dark cross-body bag and a flat cap hat.

Officers are asking the public to keep an eye out for the man and give them a call if they have any information on his whereabouts by phoning 905-688-4111, option 3, ext. 1007730.
