Niagara Falls Mayor Jim Diodati seeking re-election this fall

First Published:

Niagara Falls Mayor Jim Diodati says he will seek re-election for a fourth term.

He made the announcement Tuesday during an interview with Bob Cowan on Morning Live.

“I’ve gotten a lot of encouragement from some great folks so I am going to be seeking another term and looking forward to getting all these ideas across the finish line to finish what we started,” he said.

Diodati is currently serving his third term on the regional council. He was elected mayor of Niagara Falls in 2010 after serving two terms on city council.

Following his victory for a third term in 2018, Diodati said he felt as if he missed three of his four years as mayor due to the COVID-19 pandemic and his battle with cancer.

“I didn’t get everything across the finish line that I’d been working on,” he said.

“Things like the hospital, the expansion of the GO train, building a hospice in Niagara Falls and a number of other things. We got near the finish line but we didn’t get across the finish line.”

The municipal election is scheduled to take place on Oct. 24.

The nomination period is open from May 2 and closes on Aug. 19 at 2 p.m.
