HAPPENING NOW:

Niagara Falls sees tourism booming despite Skyway Bridge closures

Niagara Falls mayor Jim Diodati joined us to talk about what is happening in Niagara Falls, and a good thing is, tourism is back and booming.

The August long-weekend brought people to the city to see the Falls, fireworks and all the attractions on Clifton Hill. Mayor Diodati said that domestic tourism is back to pre-pandemic numbers and the city is booming.

One thing that has halted some people from going to Niagara Falls is the shutdown of the Skyway Bridge on the weekends, but the shutdown time has been changed, and will now only be closed for three more weekends from 10 p.m. to 10 a.m.

As tourism grows, so does the number of people living in the city, specifically the south end, which is where the new $3.6 billion dollar hospital has broke ground. The new hospital is set to open in 2028 and will have 469 patient beds.

The mayor was also very excited about the Nutella giveaway contest that just happened. People were asked to post a picture of a breakfast they made and were judged on what looked the most delicious. The winner won a Nutella Prize Pack that consisted of jars of Niagara Falls Nutella and a tin, passes to different attractions in the Falls, a Mayor Jim bobble head and a breakfast with the man himself.

And in true Jim Diodati fashion, he also gave away another key to the city. This time the key went to hometown tennis pro Frank Dancevic who coached the Canadian tennis team to a win at the 2022 Davis Cup.
