HAPPENING NOW:

Hamilton mayor Fred Eisenberger joined us with an update.
The Around the Bay Road Race returned over the weekend after a two-year wait. It took place Sunday as 6,500 runners and walkers laced up in the chilly temperature to compete.
Just after 9:30 a.m., the runners embarked on the 30 kilometre race, then 15 minutes later those taking part in the 5k hit the pavement.
Those in the 30k race made their way through Hamilton, under the Skyway Bridge, back around through Burlington and eventually finishing at First Ontario Centre.
Eisenberger says the people who came to the city because of the race is good for business in the city.
“When [runners] come into town, they fill up the parking spots, they go to the restaurants, they enjoy what Hamilton has to offer,” said Eisenberger. “These are great events, and we look forward to continuing these great events as we go through Spring.”
Hamilton Public Health is hosting a number of vaccine clinics that students normally get in middle school and high school because they have had to be put on hold because of the pandemic.
“They now have an opportunity to catch up on those vaccines, it’s the Hepatitis B, it’s the HPV-,” said Eisenberger. “They are very important vaccinations that are generally given to students in grade seven and 10.”

The city is adding more Wi-Fi hot spots to the parks. The William Connell City Wide Park is joining Gage Park and the Waterdown Memorial Park as a Wi-Fi location.
“It’s for those who can’t afford a significant data plan, you can get that free Wi-Fi at the park,” said Eisenberger. “We also have 71 other locations in libraries and other civic facilities where you can get Wi-Fi and we have also bumped up the speed from 100 MB per second to 1000 MB per second.”
